Unique Spots To Hide Your Spare House Key

If you would like to make sure that you are never going to be stuck outside of you home because you forgot or lost your regular house key, you will want to carefully hide a key on your property. This way, should you find yourself stuck glaring at the door because you cannot get in, you can easily recall where the spare key is hidden and quickly gain entrance.

Under A Decoration In The Flower Bed

It is not enough to simply stick a key under a rock or a fairy statue in the flower bed. The moisture from the rain would cause your key to rust. Instead, you will want to take an old prescription bottle, slide the key in it, and close the lid tight. Then, glue the top of the lid to the flat bottom of a rock or decoration that you really like. Dig a little hold that is just big enough to conceal the prescription bottle. Once the glue has dried, you can place the bottle in the hole and the garden rock or decoration will sit on top and serve as a friendly reminder to you that the key is under it. No one else will know that there is anything hidden there.

Hidden In The Bird Feeder

Do you have a bird feeder that you love to keep full of bird seed? If so, go ahead and empty all of the seeds out. Clean the bottom of the container and make sure that you thoroughly dry it. Tape a spare key for your house. Make sure that you are using enough tape so the key is completely covered. This way, you will not have to worry about any excessive moisture coming in contact with the key. After the key is completely secured and covered, you can add the bird seed back in place. You will need to make sure that you are keeping a close eye on the bird feeder. When it is running low on seeds, you will need to quickly add more so the key is not exposed. You can also make it less likely to be spotted by strangers by keeping this particular bird feeder away from the road, from neighboring properties, or your front door.

With just those two tips in mind, you should find that it is easy to find a suitable place to hide your spare house key for future use. If you encounter any problems, however, it may be a good idea to get in touch with emergency lockout services.
